The Neko Outbreak

Part Three: Felis University

Jack’s POV

Hey, folks. Jack speaking. Actually, ladies first.

Emily’s POV

My, aren’t you a gentleman. Anyway, I happened to bust my daddy’s car (which reaked of cigarettes anyway). And I’m still running for dear life. But those reading, don’t you dare even think I’m a damsel in distress. I’m plenty capable of fending for myself. But thanks for the concern. Back to you narrator.

Jack’s POV

Wait. I haven’t even told my side of the story. Oh, whatever, I think you all know it well enough. So, now  I have a neko at the edge of my coat. What could she possibly want? Narrator. Do continue please.

Narrator’s POV

8:30 PM

Before he could take a bite, he felt a tugging on his coat. He turned around and froze at what he saw:

A neko.

Looking at her, she was about half his height. She has silver hair, wore a pink sailor school uniform, and sported black cat ears and tail. Her expression appears somewhat shy, but that didn’t reassure Jack. Despite his superhuman power, he knew that if this neko calls forth her friends, he could be in serious trouble.

“Um, can I help you?” said Jack nervously.

“…Hungry,” the neko whispered.

“I-I’m sorry, what?” Jack asked.

“Hungry-nya,” the neko said as she pointed at the bread Jack was about to eat.

Jack stared blankly at the neko, then at the bread. Deciding that she doesn’t seem to be interested in converting him, he knelt down to her eye-level.

“Here,” Jack said offering the bread slice.

The neko gave a sniff before taking it from him and eating it ravenously. She seemed to enjoy the somewhat plain piece. Jack smiled a little as he stood up and took a slice for himself. He barely got two bites before he felt the neko tugging at his coat and begging for more. He decided to take few slices for himself and give the rest to the rather hungry catgirl. To his surprise, she seemed to be eating at an even quicker pace.

Jack, meanwhile, was having thoughts as he was eating his bread.

“I wonder who she is?” Jack thought as he finished his meal. “Unlike the other nekos, the first thing she did was ask for food. And why do I feel that she’s anxious about something?”

The neko, then felt Jack looking at her and turned to his direction. She looked at him for a moment then at the bread she was given. She held out the bread to him with her ears drooped.

“I’m sorry-nya,” the neko said sadly.

“Hmm, what?” Jack asked confused.

“Tina’s selfish-nya,” the neko said, starting to cry a little.

“Tina? Guess that’s her name,” thought Jack, then said. “Oh no, that’s alright. I can’t eat all of it anyway. You did say you were hungry didn’t you? Eat as much as you want.”

As a way of showing his forgiveness, Jack started petting Tina, who started to purr and smile as she continued to eat the rest of the bread. Seeing that she was content, Jack turned to leave. Suddenly, he felt something land on his back, causing him to almost lose his balance. Turning around, he saw that she had jumped onto his back, expecting him to piggy-back ride him.

“Um,” started Jack.

“Please don’t leave me,” Tina said as she started crying a little. “Please, be my friend.”

“What’s wrong?” Jack asked, slightly afraid that she would infect him. “Are you lost?”

The neko nodded. “I-I’m…*sniff*…looking for…big sister. Please…help me.”

Jack looked at Tina sympathetically. He petted the young neko, to which she purred.

“Alright, I’ll help,” Jack said.

“Thank you, mister…um,” Tina said still purring.

“Jack,” Jack answered as he carried the tired neko.

~~

Huff! Huff!

The sounds of panting could be heard as Emily was running for her life. She had lost most of the nekos. Unfortunately, the rag on her pole had burned out, and she had found that the lighter no longer works. At the very least, she had the pole for self-defense.

“Whew!” panted Emily. “It’s…official…I’m…out of shape.”

Suddenly, she felt a presence. Ignoring her exhaustion, got into a defense stance with her pipe.

“Who’s there?” said Emily with a wavering firmness. “I-I’m not afraid of some catgirl. So, come out.”

“Your scent,” a female voice called. “It’s familiar.”

There was a light thud as a shadowed figure landed a few feet away from her.

“W-Who are you?” Emily said. “W-What do you want?”

“Your scent,” the figure said as she walked closer. “It smells like…mother.”

“Get away,” Emily said as she swung the pipe.

The figure, however, dodged in blinding speed and knocked the weapon out of her hands. Before she could register the situation, she felt a painful blow on her stomach. Then, all was black.

~~

“So, do you have any ideas where your sister could be,” Jack asked while still holding Tina on his back.

“I don’t knyow-nya,” Tina said sadly.

“Maybe you could at least describe your older sister,” Jack said.

“Well,” started Tina.

“I found him,” yelled a young girl’s voice.

Jack tensed as he turned to see who it is. To his misfortune, the nekos from before were crowded among the trees and bushes, eager to take a shot at the teenager.

“Hi-nya,” Tina said.

“Hi, big sister Tinya,” the young nekos replied. “You look like you’re having so much fun-nya.”

“But, wouldn’t he look cuter as a kitty-nya,” another said.

“Kissies,” said yet another neko.

The thought didn’t quite appeal to him. But, because he’s giving a cat girl a piggy-back ride, he’s already feeling susceptible to these girls.

“I’m sorry-nya,” Tina said. “But big brother Jack is helping me find big sis. So please leave him alone for nyow.”

“Aww,” the cat girls whined. “Can’t we play for a while?”

“I’ll play with you after we’re finished,” said Tina.

“…Ok,” the catgirl crowd said.

Tina smiled apologetically as Jack walked away, unable to believe that he actually escaped a dreadful fate. He didn’t notice, however, that were still eyeing him. They were particularly looking at Tina’s treatment. Unable to hold their curiosity or playful giggles, they quietly followed.

~~

It was silent as Jack and Tania made their way towards…well…wherever.

“So, um, do you ever get along with all the other cat girls,” Jack said.

“…I guess,” Tina said. “But, still I miss big sis.”

“…What was she like?” Jack asked trying to keep up a conversation.

“She’s…in pain-nya,” Tina said.

“What do you mean?” Jack asked suddenly curious.

“I don’t knyow,” Tina said. “Somehow I feel like I’m a part of her. It always felt like she’s hurt a lot and has been holding it-nya. She was always serious and never smiles. It got worse when daddy…*sniff*…passed away.”

“I’m sorry,” Jack said solemnly.

Tina shook her head. “Big sis got even meaner and just left me-nya. But, I can’t stop thinking about her-nya. She never smiled or laughed or had any fun.”

“Maybe she transformed the population to find her big sis?” Jack thought. “No. They seemed to preoccupied with ‘making’ new friends to seem like they were helping Tina.”

“So, can you tell me more about – ”

Tina suddenly stuck her nose up in the air, and started sniffing.

“That semll-nya,” Tina said. “It smells like…BIG SIS-NYA!”

Before Jack could speak, someone, or something landed next to him. He couldn’t quite see whoever it was, but at that moment, he saw –

“Emily!” Jack shouted, recognizing the girl being carried, or rather kidnapped by however it was.

The figure leaped further into the darkness.

“Big Sis-nya!” shouted Tina as she jumped off of Jack and ran after the perpetrator.

“Wait! It’s too dangerous,” Jack yelled as he chased after the young neko.

Jack ran after Tina, wondering why this “big sis” kidnapped Emily. Could she be connected to this whole incident somehow? Regardless, he maintained a fast pace until he finally saw Tina, who seemed to be in front of a series of buildings. He saw a stone block that says, Felis University. What caught Jack’s attention, however, was the fact that Tina seemed to be shaking in fear.

“Hey. What’s wrong?” Jack asked as he petted her to comfort her.

“I-I…don’t knyow,” stammered Tina. “When I came in front of this place, I suddenly felt scared-nya.”

“Have you been here before?” Jack asked.

“N-Nyo,” said Tina. “B-but, at the same time…yes-nya.”

“What is she talking about?” thought Jack puzzled at her answer.

Jack thought for a moment, then, grabbed Tina’s hand.

“Let’s go,” Jack said. “We’re going to meet big sis.”

Tina looked at him with some hesitance, then nodded. “…Ok.”

Jack nodded back, and then walked forward into the campus grounds of this dark school. All his questions are about to be answered.

To be continued.
I'm so sorry for the long wait. I had some college stuff to take care of, but I finally got this up.

So Jack encounters a neko who curiously is not like the other happy-go-lucky nekos. Things take an even bigger twist when Emily is now kidnapped by this mysterious figure.

I hope to get te rest done ASAP. Thank you for reading.

Why is everybody cheering for the nekos!? They are (I think) the bad guys!

Another good chapter!
